JAA AED Safety Program

AED Program

The Jericho Athletic Association in conjunction with the Jericho Fire District is pleased to announce the continued success of our Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) program for our community. PAD means making automatic external defibrillators (AED's) available in public and/or private places where large numbers of people gather.

It is estimated that more than 250,000 Americans of all ages die of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) every year. Sudden cardiac arrest is usually due to an irregular cardiac rhythm (arrhythmia), and unless a normal heart rhythm is restored, death will follow within a matter of minutes. SCA can strike anyone of any age, at any time, anywhere and without warning signs. An automatic external defibrillator (AED) is a user friendly, medical device which delivers an electrical shock to the heart in order to restore a normal heart rhythm. This is a critical step in resuscitating a victim of SCA. Simply, AED's save lives!

Since the initiation of our joint venture we can proudly state that we have trained and certified over 250 coaches, and have placed an AED on every field where a JAA participant plays his/her sport. Our current goal is to provide our JAA travel teams with portable AEDs in order to protect our children while playing away games. Our current funding, along with our continued fund raising efforts should allow us to achieve this goal in the near future.

We thank you for your continued support in this endeavor. If you have any questions regarding this program please contact either the Jericho Athletic Association or Dave Marmann ( with the Jericho Fire District.
