The Jericho Jets Track Club was formed in the Spring of the year 2000 in order to allow boys and girls,
from grade school through high school, to develop their skills and increase their talents and abilities in the sport of track and field.
The team holds regular (but optional) practices three times a week and enters local indoor and outdoor meets throughout the year,
primarily on Long Island. Events vary, and include sprints as short as 55 meters (indoors) and 100 meters (outdoors) and distance
events as long as 1500 meters (the "metric mile"). Athletes can also compete in team relays and field events such as
the long jump, high jump and shot put. We participate as a team and are a part of the Long Island Track and Field Association,
which is the local chapter of USA Track and Field, the organization that oversees the sport in the United States. To date, over 150 youngsters,
as young as five and up to seventeen, have participated in practices and meets, including the Colgate Women's Games, the Long Island Youth
Championships and the junior Olympics, as well as in the development meets that are held on a regular basis throughout the year. While the
Jericho Jets looks to attract members at every level of ability and intent, our young runners and jumpers have already "made their mark"
and have won many medals and ribbons. At the higher levels, our athletes have included a 2 time Colgate Games Champion, several Nassau County
High School Champions, 2 Empire State Games medalists and 5 girls who have competed in the High School National Track & Field Championships.
The Jericho Jets provide an opportnity for
our youngsters to participate in the "purest" form of athletics, whether on a serious or a casual basis and also
serves as a training venue for other sports which require speed and endurance.
